Don’t forget to write!

Diet? Yes! On Monday I wrote about how diet is just what you eat in a day. No more, no less. So what should your diet be, anyways?
If your goal is weight loss, you need to figure out how to eat less and stay satisfied. You need structure, planning, and accountability. You need to figure out how you truly like to eat and then make that your plan.
It’s not about living on lettuce leaves. It’s about staying aware about how much food you have eaten throughout the day. Your number one eating awareness tool is at your fingertips.
LOSEitWRITE. Write every bite, and you will truly become aware of your diet. What’s stopping you anyways?

Have a wonderful Wednesday, and keep on doing it write!

For so many people trying to lose weight, it’s a bad bad word. You are either on one or off one. You are looking for the next one to change your life or at least your body.
How silly we all are.

DIET IS JUST A FOUR LETTER WORD. We are always on a diet from the moment we are born. Your diet is just the food you choose to eat in a day.
Yes, you need to eat less on your diet to lose weight. And you will gain if you eat too much on your diet.

What I want to know, is when did “DIET” become so much more?
And what does diet mean to YOU?
More on my favorite topic on Wednesday. For now as always:

Should I confess? Tell you the truth? That after an entire five days, and over sixty different attempts, I failed. Miserably. I was able to leave a bite or two of food on my plate only a couple of times. YIKES!
What this means is simple. It would be great if I could turn myself into a smaller eater. But after all of these years, I know better. I need to eat high volume, low calorie foods to be satisfied. I need to watch my portions because I am going to finish them all. I need to be careful of leftovers. And I am probably never going to be one of those people who only eats half of the food on their plates.
Oh well. How did you do?

LEAVE IT OR WEAR IT?

     Leave it or wear it?
I always clean my plate. And when I’m done, I start looking at the plates of those who I’m eating with. And if there are any leftovers to be put away? They rarely make it back into the refrigerator.
I read an article the other day about a woman who lost 50 pounds by eating half of what she normally ate. This made me stop and think. Even after all of these years of maintaining my weight loss, I still can’t ever leave food on my plate. Whether I’m hungry or full, if it’s vegetables or cake, it’s all going down.
This week I’m proposing an eating challenge. For those of you who are food finishers like me, after each meal and snack, see if you can leave a couple of bites on your plate. Cause if you don’t LEAVE IT, EVENTUALLY You’ll END UP WEARING IT. And bathing suit season is coming up soon!
I can’t wait to tell you how it’s going on Wednesday. Have a great day!

YOU AREN’T ADDICTED TO CARBS. BUT YOU PROBABLY EAT TOO MANY OF THEM. If you eat too many highly processed carbs, it sure makes losing weight harder Here are a couple of tips that have contributed to my 80 pound weight loss:

1) If you can’t eat a reasonable amount of a food, it’s out of your daily meal plan. For me, that meant adios to cookies, candy, cake, ice-cream, chips, crackers, sugary cereals, pop, the bread basket at restaurants, and pasta.

2) Find substitutions that work for you. I can’t live without my treats. There are now literally hundreds of satisfying choices on the market that are tasty and low in calories. I love Skinny Cow ice-cream sandwiches, low-fat fudge bars, vita muffin tops, and 100 calorie bars of dark chocolate. And of course, my COFFEE CANDIES!

3) Indulge occasionally. There is always a reason to overeat. Birthdays, holidays, and celebrations should be cherished, but not always with food. If you have more than one big event a week, stick to your eating plan.
And for the one event that you splurging, stay mindful of how much you are eating.

YOUR BODY DOESN’T CARE THAT IT’S A BIRTHDAY! AND EITHER DOES THE SCALE!

Have a wonderful Friday, and don’t forget to write!

CARB ADDICT? MAYBE!

As a former professional dieter, I know a lot about losing weight (and gaining it back). But, whenever I have a question that requires more than my expertise, I put in a call to DietDiva, LOSEitWRITE’S dietician.

Here’s what DIETDIVA says about carb addiction:

“Hi LOSEitWRITE girl! The answer is

NO, you can’t be addicted to carbs but

YES you can crave too many. To keep my answer basic, if you eat too many simple carbs, your body will release too much insulin. This will lead to more cravings for carbohydrates and will store the extra food as fat.

The good news is that it IS a cycle which can be broken by not eating too many simple carbohydrates. It can also be helped by consulting with a wonderful dietician (wink, wink) and putting together meals that combine complex carbohydrates with lean protein sources.”

Thanks DIET DIVA! That really helps. If you have any questions you would like me to pass along to LOSEitWRITE’S wonderful dietician email her at: dietdiva@loseitwrite.com

ARE YOU A CARB ADDICT?
CAN YOU BE ADDICTED TO CARBS? I love when you ask me questions. And lately I’ve been getting this one a lot. When I used to try every diet, I found one that said my weight problem was due to the fact that I was addicted to carbs.
Perfect! I followed this plan of eating nothing but protein and green and white vegetables all day long. But the best part of this diet was that for one hour a day you got to eat whatever you wanted.
So I got ready. For that one hour I feasted on carbs. Not even pizza or burgers. Just pita and hummus, delicious sandwiches, rice and beans; followed by muffins and ice-cream of course. All consumed quickly and in less than an hour.
Needless to say, after a couple of weeks, my jeans were getting tighter, not looser! But it sure was yummy.
Bottom line is, I think that eating too much of any food will keep you heavy. And white flour and sugary carbohydrates are harder to control the portions of because they taste so good!
So are you a carb addict? Probably not. The question to ask yourself really is: “Are you more likely to overeat chicken breasts or french fries and ice-cream?”

Have a wonderful Monday, and start your week off WRITE!

THE WRITE AMOUNT

Is it every bite? Once a day? Once a week? What is the write amount of writing you need to do to lose weight and keep it off anyways?

I write every bite. Always. I can’t expect you to write if I’m not willing to do it myself. And it only takes a couple of minutes a day. I advise you to do the same. But I’m also realistic. Here are some writing guidelines to help you LOSEitWRITE!

If you are just starting LOSEitWRITE, write every day for at least three weeks. I recommend even writing before your meals and snacks and then crossing them off as you go.

If you have been writing and losing for at least three months, make sure you write at least three times a week, and weigh in at least once a week to make sure you are still losing.

If you are at maintenance, write at least once a week to keep the habit going. Weigh at least once a week as well. If your weight creeps up more than five pounds then start writing every day again!

Have a wonderful Friday, and don’t forget to write!
